It May Be Spooky Season, But There’s No Reason To Fear Custom Mouthguards
It’s October. Of an election year. During a pandemic.
There’s a lot to be scared of during spooky season, but one thing that shouldn’t give you a fright is keeping yourself properly protected and comfortable while playing sports.
Are you afraid of custom mouthguards? Do you have questions and don’t know how to find the answers? Here are four frightening scenarios that should help to unmask your fear:
1. I am afraid of taking my own impression
It’s understandable – taking your own impression is an important part of the custom mouthguard development process, and you want to make sure you get it right. Thankfully there is good news! Gladiator introduced our at-home impression kit 20 years ago and have continued to perfect the process since!
With both written and video instructions, we’ll help walk you step-by-step through the process. Our special-cut trays are more accommodating to new users and a simple two-putty system is far less messy then the runny material used by dentists. We also supply enough material for two tries, in case the first one isn’t perfect.
Take your impressions from the comfort of your own home, without a trip to the dentist.
Still spooked? Feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Team for tips and even get a technician’s feedback on your first try and how to make the second better.
2. I fear that I don’t know anything about custom mouthguards
Yes, it’s much less terrifying to simply pick up a boil-and-bite mouthguard off the shelf, or grab the mouthguard labeled “hockey” or “boxing” from the rack in the store. While the unknown is scary, the great thing about a custom mouthguard is that it’s made specifically to you — for your unique mouth structure, needs and sport.
As long as you know the sport you play and your own likes and dislikes, we’ll handle the rest! We’re the only manufacturer to offer specific mouthguard styles and upgrades based on your sport and preference. That means a tailor-made mouthguard exclusive to you.
If you want more protection, there’s an upgrade for that. Need more chewing resistance, there’s an upgrade for that. Prefer a thinner option? There’s a Gladiator for that!
3. It’s spooky to spend all this money
Compared to a generic boil-and-bite mouthguard, the price of a custom mouthguard may seem scary. But when you look closer, the cost is really negligible.
Once you get your first order and the stone model of your mouth is made, all reorders are discounted up to 50% off. That puts all future orders in the same range as your boil-and-bites for a custom mouthguard. Speaking of which…
Athletes typically chew through or lose multiple boil-and-bite mouthguards throughout a season. Between the bulkiness and discomfort, not to mention the blandness, boil-and-bites get misplaced or forgotten about with ease. Not only do Gladiators last at least a season or more — with proper cleaning and care — with full personalization, they also become a favorite part of your uniform!
4. My braces scare off mouthguards
You may think, or have been told, that you can’t wear a custom mouthguard over braces. Well, you haven’t met Gladiator.
We developed the Ortho-Channel, a special adaptation to our patented design that is just for braces. The Gladiator Pro for braces fits safely over your brackets and wires without inhibiting orthodontic treatment or alignment. This allows enough room for your braces to do their job, while remaining properly protected and comfortable. Actual dental technicians build your guard to properly protect you and your braces.
Nothing scary about that!
