Details: Jack Eichel, the second overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, is a superstar in the making for the Buffalo Sabres. The 19-year old center finished fourth in voting for the Calder Trophy — awarded to the NHL’s top rookie — as he finished his first season ranked second in points amongst rookie skaters.
In his first and only year at Boston University, Eichel won the Hobey Baker Award — only the second freshman ever to win the award — leading all NCAA Division I skaters with 71 points. He helped lead BU to their first conference title in six years and was named Most Valuable Player at the Hockey East Tournament. He was also named Hockey East Player of the Year, Hockey East Rookie of the Year, was the only unanimous first-team Hockey East All-Star selection and won the Tim Taylor Award as the nation’s outstanding freshman.
The Massachusetts-native has skated internationally for Team USA at multiple levels, winning gold at the 2014 Under-18 World Junior Championships, and was selected to Team North America for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Eichel was first introduced to Gladiator at BU, where he and his teammates all wore the High Performance Lite. He continued to wear the same HP Lite after being drafted by the Sabres, which Team Gladiator noticed while watching him play. Because the HP Lite is meant for athletes wearing full facial protection, which Eichel wore at BU but not in the NHL, Team Gladiator reached out to and encouraged him to try the High Performance Gladiator for the proper protection.
Eichel loved the thin, comfortable profile of the High Performance so much that he decided to become a full-fledged Team Gladiator Athlete!
