Would You Sign The Mouthguard Declaration Of Independence?
240 years ago, our forefathers declared independence from tyranny and oppression. In 2016, it’s your turn!
Independence Day is just a few short days away, so in honor of July 4th, let’s take a look at reasons behind declaring independence from your oppressively outdated stock or boil-and-bite mouthguard.
Here is the Mouthguard Declaration of Independence:
All mouthguards are not created equal
Your mouth is unique to you and only you, so it’s time to free yourself from the tyranny of one-size-fits-all mouthguards. But your mouthguard shouldn’t just fit your exact individual mouth structure; it should fit your specific sport as well.
Every sport has different requirements for protection, typically based on the frequency of contact and the force of impact delivered. That means some sports require more material in the front than others, while some other athletes may need a thinner mouthguard.
And your mouthguard isn’t just customized to your mouth and sport, but to other factors as well. So if you’re a chewer — which you shouldn’t be — you won’t be persecuted when you have a mouthguard that can accommodate your needs.
No protection without representation
The beautiful thing about being independent is having the freedom to express your identity however you want. But traditional athletic equipment oppresses individual thought.
Your team gear and apparel represents you and what you identity with, as your jersey and helmet feature your team name and logo, your number and possibly your name. Why shouldn’t your mouthguard do the same?
From custom logos to team colors and personal identifications like name and number, you now have the freedom to make your mouthguard your favorite part of your uniform.
Undeniable rights of protection, comfort and the pursuit of performance
The function of a mouthguard is similar to the document that helped start this great country. Like the Declaration of Independence, mouthguards serve to protect, to provide comfort and support, and to help the pursuit of a better future.
It’s essential to make sure your mouthguard stays in the proper position against your upper teeth without needing to bite or clench down to keep it in place. When a mouthguard doesn’t fit correctly, there is no guarantee the mouthguard is going to be in place when impact occurs.
On top of being properly protected, when your mouthguard fits intimately against your upper teeth, you don’t have to worry about being distracted by discomfort or needing to remove your mouthguard to speak, breathe or even drink water. And that actually improves your performance on the field, court or ice.
Just imagine how much faster Paul Revere could have rode!
