Hometown Hero: Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis To Defend Title In Philadelphia
Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is coming home.
A Philadelphia native (our hometown!), Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) will defend his IBF World Welterweight Title on Saturday, July 13th when he faces David Avanesyan (30-4-1, 18 KOs) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. This is the first ever fight at the arena — home to the Philadelphia Flyers and Sixers — and the first for Ennis in the City of Brotherly Love since 2018.
This will also be Ennis’s first fight as world champion, after being elevated in November when Terrance Crawford was stripped of his title. In his last fight in July 2023, Boots scored a 10th-round victory over Roiman Villa.
“I’m excited for my homecoming especially being the first to fight at the Wells Fargo Center, the biggest arena in Philly,” Ennis said in a media statement.
Ennis has been wearing Gladiator custom mouthguards since 2018. For his homecoming and title-defending bout, he has two versions of his Pro style Gladiator mouthguard to choose from: a clear guard with his nickname “Boots” and a special white/silver bi-color design to commemorate the memory of his late Grandpa Joe, who recently passed.
